Preserving summer

Spent the morning on my little balcony garden and planted a few more flowers, trying to preserve a bit of summer before it slips through our hands. Mada has been chewing on all my plants constantly, so I assumed it was time to get her her very own cat grass. Looks like she's rather fond of the idea!

I was in a bit of a spring cleaning/renovating mood and painted one of my bedroom walls blue. I had bought this paint ages ago, and when my friend spotted it (back then), she asked: "Oh? Baby blue? In a baby mood?", so I refrained from using it. She was quite right. I initially wanted it to be more matte and slightly smokey or slate, a bit colonial-style (if that makes any sense). I even bought some extra paint to tone it down a bit.

But it's still blue. Baby blue. Very much so.

The sound of music, cake and good company

Choir camp was all about being with close friends (and cake) until the early hours, loads of classical music, wonderful concerts in cozy churches, and the summer we had almost given up on. It's astonishing how rehearsing new songs for our repertory for nearly 8 hours a day still recharges my batteries. Must be the music, and the wonderful company.
I can't wait for our Christmas concerts. Even though we've got 26 degrees at the moment (I am not complaining - summer is finally coming round)!

Gone too soon

I miss summer already. It somehow went by without me noticing. My legs are still white, I haven't had enough ice cream yet, and there's still a bunch of dresses waiting to be taken out.

Oh, and our heating is not working.

Goldfish Memory

Summer days have caught up with me. That's my excuse for not having posted anything in so many days. I've had to work a lot more shifts than usual as well, covering for those who enjoyed the sun abroad. What I like most these days is spending lazy mornings in the bed. Preferably with my favorite bundle of joy of course.

One of the strangest thing about my cat is her memory. Hubby calls it goldfish memory. I have not done a full research yet, but if it equals our little girl's memory, it must be really short.

In moments like on this picture, she craves for some caressing. And of course she gets lots, until she suddenly shakes her head and gets up on her feet with the moodiest expression on her face. I could never read that behavior well. But I know she's very displeased with something at the latest when she makes that funny and, I believe, very unique sound. Hubby and I compare it to a kind of pigeon sound, and we playfully "coo coooo" around the house if something is a little displeasing.

Funny thing is, it takes about one minute, which I of course silently and patiently wait. Cause there's nothing like the moment I innocently call her by the name and she tilts her head around the curtain, stares at me with those big eyes and mews a few times as she stumbles closer, as if asking for a bit of space there next to me.

Really? That easy? Not even a little grumpy "cooo" about whatever bothered her one minute ago? If only it was this simple for us to overcome uneasy feelings. Sometimes I wish for a goldfish memory, so everything left on my mind would be the thought "Hey, you got some more space there next to you?" while I stretch my front paws.

Weekend Treasures

We've been having the sunniest weekend of all and spent most of the days outdoors which is, for those who know me a little, quite unusual. What better thing to do than to head to the flea market on such days?

But despite all our good intentions both my friend and I overslept Saturday morning. We got to the flea market far too late to find a reasonable bike - they say (hubby did, too). But maybe it was fate, and this little dutch Lady and me were meant to be together, so she was waiting for me until I got there.

It was obvious that we would have to do a bike trip on Sunday, so we wrapped some snacks and enjoyed a warm cup of chocolate cappuccino in the park, listening to the cheers of the worldcup games in the background. Note to myself; believing a fleece blanket is the optimal choice for hot summer day picnics is very foolish...

Well, but back to my little Lady here. The breaks aren't really working properly yet (yes, that squealing and giggling girl passing by you on the traffic lights, using her feet to stop - that's me), and there's no light in the back (who needs that in summer, right? And am I not shining enough already, Mr Police officer, so you could connive at those little flaws?), but I just can't get enough of little trips with her.

You have noticed by now, it is definitely a 'she'. And I am looking for very oldfashioned names by the way, just like Edna or Dorine. Suggestions welcomed!

Hubby got really lucky too. He has been looking for a puppet for a while now, and didn't really want a super professional one, since well, he is no professional. We found Mr Black, who was also waiting for us, it seemed, dozing off between some old tableware. It took us 4 hours to unravel its lines (including several fights about who pulled the knots tighter of course), but it was so worth it.

This little guy has so much character and charm, he draws you in with just a few nods of his head or the gesture he gives you if you ask him what time it is. It is odd how quick you form some kind of relationship to him and forget about the puppeteer.

Now this week ahead of us will be a short one. Guess where we're going on Thursday! We'll do a little short trip back to where it all started, but I'll tell you all about it next time. Right now I really need to finish another layer of that white wall.
Oh, you thought I was done with it already, didn't you?
